Gateway to Success, a nonprofit located in Southern Colorado, needed a way to streamline the scheduling process for their vans and service vehicles. The program exists to help women who have been released from prison to reacclimate into society. The vans shuttle women from various different jails to a designated home, and are also used for company outings and events. In addition to needing a scheduling tool that would allow drivers to easily access reservations remotely, the client also needed a way to keep track of the mileage on the vehicles for budgeting purposes.
To solve these challenges, SkyTerra built an application in Microsoft Power Apps to allow administrators to make reservations for the vans. AI Builder was then used to read the odometers of the vehicles through a simple photo capture. Essentially, the client is able to access the reservation through Power Apps from their smartphone or mobile device, take a picture of the mileage on the vehicle (before and after each trip) and then AI Builder extracts the data from each photo and filter it through Power Apps.
By creating a work breakdown structure (WBS), SkyTerra introduced a process to their client that uses AI Builder to identify information to extract, select a location and assign it to an entity. In this instance, the information to extract for the client was the vehicle mileage and the location for the data was uploaded to Power Apps, making it easily accessible to administrators and drivers. This model workflow not only helps streamline the scheduling process for the client, but also improves communication between the drivers and home office by eliminating manual data entry and reducing human error.
With a successful digital transformation strategy firmly in place, SkyTerra was able to use AI Builder to solve the tech challenges being experienced by their client, and helped them streamline day-to-day operations. By eliminating the need for manual data entry, Gateway to Success no longer has to manually schedule pickups and dropoffs or calculate the mileage of their vehicles.
